The Church of Charlie Chaplin

  • Allegheny United Unitarian Church 416 W. North Ave Pittsburgh, PA 15212 (map)

(Cha Cha Cha)

Perhaps not for everyone, yet everyone is invited.

Charles Spencer Chaplin was born into incredible poverty in London in 1889. From this sad beginning he became the best loved and best known man in the entire world.

Not only the best known of his time, but the best known of any person who ever lived. People who had never heard of Jesus, Buddha, (name your savior) knew who Charlie Chaplin was.

Both Albert Einstein and Mahatma Ghandi requested audience with Chaplin. Both with good reason, as is evidenced by this presentation: The Church of Charlie Chaplin, which focuses on his 1916 masterpiece The Pawn Shop, performed with a new score composed by Tom Roberts.

In The Pawn Shop, Chaplin transcends all and explores the illusory nature of time, as well as individual identity. We shall see that a perfect master, an Avatar, from India is perhaps the source of the mysticism of Charlie Chaplin.

Don’t worry, be happy. Come see for yourself.
