The Forgotten History of Pittsburgh Jazz

  • Cooper Siegel Community Library 403 Fox Chapel Rd Pittsburgh, PA, 15238 United States (map)

Pittsburgh in the Roaring 20s

This lecture was created by Tom in 2010 and addresses the forgotten works of Pittsburgh musicians.

Sadly, there is very little documentation for what occurred musically in Pittsburgh after the death of Stephen Foster during the Civil War and the end of the Second World War.

Tom spent hundreds of hours researching materials at Rutgers University in New Jersey and ultimately a multi-volume set published only in Germany and discovered an exciting array of musicians some who went on to prominent national careers and others who remained at home.

The 2015 edition contains newly discovered musicians and recordings. Don’t miss it!
