How Jelly Roll Morton Invented Jazz

  • Mount Lebanon Library 16 Castle Shannon Blvd. Pittsburgh, PA 15228 (map)

A special reading with music by Jonah Winter and Tom Roberts

Jonah Winter is the award-winning author of twenty-five nonfiction picture books, including New York Times Best Illustrated Books Diego and Here Comes the Garbage Barge! And the highly acclaimed Frida and Dizzy.

Winter’s wide-ranging interests have led him to write books on baseball players, avant-garde artists, jazz musicians, exotic dancers, presidents, manual laborers, twelfth-century mystics, and his own father’s experiences growing up in East Texas during the Great depression. He has been listening to the music of Jelly Roll Morton since he was a young boy. (And so have I!)
